Amherst Schools Policy Subcommittee modifies public comment procedures

Board of Education · Meeting of June 20, 2023

AMHERST — The Amherst Board of Education Policy Subcommittee agreed to revise its public participation policy, continuing to accept written public comment but eliminating the display of submitted remarks during meetings. Members Peter Demling, Jennifer Shiao, Stephen Sullivan, and Sarahbess Kenney discussed proposed changes to the BEDH policy at the request of the Regional School Committee, with Ms. Shiao recounting the history of written comment adoption during pandemic remote meetings.

Written remarks will be posted to meeting agendas before sessions begin and retained in the official record. The subcommittee postponed review of two additional policies and recommended archiving a third, directing Chair Demling to forward results to the Amherst School Committee chair.
