Regional School Committee approves interim special education director.

AMHERST — The Amherst Pelham Regional School Committee approved Joan Smith as interim director of special education through June 30, 2026. Regional School Committee Chair Sarahbess Kenney moved the appointment, which passed 6 to 0 with 3 abstentions from members Bridget Hynes, Andrew Hart, and Rachel Figurasmith. The committees spent the early portion of the January 13 meeting in executive session to discuss contract negotiations with nonunion personnel.
