Regional schools oppose lifting cap on Commonwealth charter schools

Board of Education · Meeting of August 1, 2020

Amherst-Pelham Regional School Committee opposes lifting the cap on Commonwealth charter schools. The committee unanimously approved a resolution citing funding diversions and charter schools' poor track record serving special needs students and English language learners. Under new Chair Laura Kent and Vice-Chair Sarah Dolven, the committee approved the Physical Restraint and Behavior Support policy and the Sheltered English Immersion Endorsement policy on second readings.

The committee designated $82,549 in fiscal 2016 Medicare Part D reimbursements to the district's Other Post-Employment Benefits Trust Fund and returned the Use of Cameras policy to the Policy Subcommittee to address parental consent concerns.
