Regional School Committee elects Sherr chair, reorganizes leadership.
Amherst-Pelham Regional School Committee · Meeting of June 23, 2026
Amherst-Pelham Regional School Committee elects new leadership in reorganization vote. William Sherr of Pelham won the contested chair election six to three over Sarah Marshall of Amherst, while Bridget Hynes of Amherst was elected vice chair with six votes to Sarahbess Kenney's three; all nine members voted. The Committee also received the School Equity Advisory Committee's annual report documenting persistent gaps for Black and Latino students and students with disabilities despite overall test-score gains, and heard urgent calls from SEAC co-chair Hynes to adopt equity as a primary Committee goal backed by measurable benchmarks.
Superintendent Dr. Xi Herman responded that the Committee must resist pressure from narrow interests and stand firm on systemic change. The Committee accepted three gifts totaling $64,100 and denied a request to adjust an educator's approved professional leave, inviting reapplication instead.
