Finance Committee · Meeting of May 21, 2026

Amherst's Finance Committee questioned Department of Public Works staff on the fiscal 2027 budget. Staff said the operating budget is about $100,000 above fiscal 2025 spending but still falls short, citing electricity, software licenses and contract costs. Paul, a town finance official, said the two large employee associations had ratified a new contract, with signing expected within two weeks.

Staff said the sewer study should take 18 months and lead to a "substantial rate increase." The committee adjourned by roll call after planning to vote water and sewer rates the next Tuesday.
