Amherst Royals capture 50/70 Frontier League 2026 baseball championship.

AMHERST -- Local youth baseball and softball programs closed out the season with several championships, while the town's hockey association opened registration for its 2026-27 season.

YOUTH LEAGUES -- Amherst Baseball, Inc. announced that the Amherst Royals won the 50/70 Frontier League 2026 championship. The Amherst Koufax Hurricanes captured the spring 2026 Western Mass Senior Babe Ruth League (WMSBL) title. In softball, the Hadley-Amherst 12u team finished as regular-season champions, according to Amherst Baseball and Hadley-Amherst Softball, the joint program that fields co-ed baseball and girls' softball teams for players age 4 and up from Amherst, Hadley, Pelham, Shutesbury and Leverett. The organization, rooted in Amherst Little League, which was founded in 1952, has been run by a volunteer Board of Directors since 2012.

The Amherst Hockey Association -- home to Amherst Hockey and the Western Mass Liberty Girls program -- has opened registration for its 2026-27 co-ed season, the Western Mass Liberty Girls 2026-27 season, and its "Try Hockey for Free" program, according to the association's website. AHA co-ed travel teams compete in the Greater Springfield Junior Hockey League, while the Western Mass Liberty girls' teams play in the New England Girls' Hockey League and the Connecticut Girls Hockey League.

No Amherst Regional High School contests were listed for the period, and no items were reported from Amherst's town recreation department.
