Amherst launches new transportation and parking request form
The Town of Amherst introduced a new online form letting residents, businesses, staff and officials submit transportation and parking suggestions, which will be reviewed by the Transportation and Parking Commission.
The Town of Amherst announced Oct. 22 that it has introduced a new online form for submitting suggestions and requests on a wide range of transportation and parking issues.
The town said the goal is to make it easier for people to submit suggestions and to improve the efficiency and transparency of its decision-making process. Residents, businesses, Town Councilors, town staff and users of Amherst's transportation and parking facilities can all submit requests through the form.
The form can be used for requests such as crosswalk placement, speed limits, truck restrictions, roadway or sidewalk improvements, traffic calming measures, street amenities, bike and pedestrian safety concerns, parking changes, and long-term road or sidewalk closures. The town noted that residents should continue to use SeeClickFix for issues needing more immediate attention, such as potholes, broken lights or missing signs.
The form can be accessed directly at amherstma.gov/TPR, through the "Service Request" icon under "Online Services" on the town's website homepage, or on the Transportation and Parking Commission's webpage. Users must create an account to fill it out.
Requests will be reviewed and discussed at public meetings of the Transportation and Parking Commission, which includes relevant staff, appointed residents and two Town Councilors. Any recommendations for change coming out of that review will then go to the Town Council and Town Manager for official approval and implementation.
"Resident suggestions and participation in these decisions are vital," Andy Steinberg, chair of the Transportation and Parking Commission, said in the release. He said the form replaces a system where people often contacted several different staff members or councilors with no consistent way to respond, and will instead give residents a clear process and a chance to give feedback directly on suggestions.
The Transportation and Parking Commission was established in 2026 and includes the police chief, the superintendent of public works, the director of planning and economic development, a representative of the Commission on Persons with Disabilities, two Town Councilors and three appointed residents. The commission reviews transportation and parking bylaws and policies and has authority, delegated by the Town Council, to approve certain changes to public ways.
Residents can sign up for email or text notifications about upcoming commission meetings through [the town's Agenda Center notification sign-up](amherstma.gov/NotifyMe).
