School Committee names Dr. Xiomara Herman as superintendent

Amherst School Committee hires Dr. Xiomara Herman as superintendent, effective July 1. Chair Sarah Marshall announced the conclusion of negotiations.
The Committee unanimously approved the FY25 preschool tuition sliding fee scale on a motion by Irv Rhodes. ELL Administrator Katie Richardson detailed curriculum changes to the Caminantes dual-language program, transitioning from a 50-50 to a 90-10 Spanish-English model in grades K and 1 starting Fall 2024, with no impact to current Caminantes students. Interim Superintendent Douglas Slaughter reported kindergarten enrollment has declined to 117 students from the typical 134, with projections around 100 for the following year.
