School Committee begins redistricting planning amid capacity concerns

AMHERST — School Committee prioritizes redistricting and school consolidation planning. The Amherst School Committee agreed to begin redistricting planning early after learning that Fort River School may not accommodate projected enrollment, with Superintendent Xiomara Herman noting the urgency of addressing the issue. Members also identified consolidation of Wildwood and Fort River Schools as a priority project.
In other business, the Committee conducted a first reading of draft Policy LBC for private school approval, with Superintendent Herman recommending a year-long advance notice and detailed building and crisis management plans from applicants.
