School Committee approves $26.97M budget and Fort River proprietary items

Board of Education · Meeting of April 23, 2024

Amherst School Committee approves $26.97 million budget for fiscal 2025. The committee unanimously backed the spending plan, which restores teaching positions enabled by additional Town of Amherst funding, with Superintendent Douglas Slaughter overseeing the process. The committee also unanimously authorized the Fort River Elementary School Building Project to proceed with specified proprietary items, including control systems and Corkeen playground surface.

The contractor requested a liability waiver for Corkeen, which has limited track record in New England though it is preferred by the Conservation Committee and Health Board.
