The Amherst-Pelham Regional School Committee rejected procedures for physical restraint and behavior support.
Amherst-Pelham Regional School Committee · Meeting of October 20, 2026
AMHERST — The Amherst-Pelham Regional School Committee rejected procedures for physical restraint and behavior support. The committee voted 2-4 on October 1 against approving the procedures required by Policy JKAA (adopted June 2026), with supporters Sarahbess Kenney and Sarah Marshall citing compliance needs and opponents Anna Heard, Tim Shores, Bridget Hynes, and Deb Leonard citing incomplete legal review and insufficient collaboration with the Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC). SEPAC requested the committee delay approval to allow direct engagement in the review process, as required by policy.
The Regional Committee will collect feedback from members by October 4 for the district team to revise and resubmit the procedures.
