AMHERST — Regional school committee approves superintendent's 2025-26 goals and hears special education concerns. The Amherst-Pelham Regional School Committee unanimously approved Superintendent Dr. Xi Herman's 2025-26 performance goals in a 9-0 vote, with feedback to be tracked through the Perform software platform.
The committee also heard from the Special Education Parent Advisory Council representing 923 students (33 percent of the district's 2,790 enrollment), who reported declining paraprofessional support, unfulfilled requests for neurodiversity training, and communication gaps including the recent departure of Director of Mental Health Maureen Fleming. The board assigned the Policy Committee to review restraint and seclusion practices with SEPAC input and deferred a vote on the 2026-2028 strategic plan to December.
