Amherst-Pelham Regional School Committee · Meeting of September 8, 2026

Amherst-Pelham schools adopted law enforcement protocol policy with emergency vote procedures. The Regional School Committee unanimously approved Policy ACL governing law enforcement activity near school buses and grounds, complying with the Massachusetts PROTECT Act. District counsel Michael Joyce prepared the policy in consultation with the Massachusetts Association of School Committees.

Chair William Sherr moved to suspend the standard two-read policy requirement to permit an immediate vote; the suspension motion passed 8 to 0 with one abstention from Deb Leonard. The adopted policy mandates bus driver training protocols for law enforcement activity near stops, including special education transportation considerations.
