Pelham School Committee approves choice status for coming year

AMHERST — Pelham School Committee unanimously votes to continue elementary choice program. Superintendent Dr Xi Herman recommended the renewal, which the board approved without dissent after a public hearing featuring twelve residents advocating to preserve enrollment access and investment in the school. The committee provided written guidance to Herman directing sixth grade remain at Pelham Elementary, choice seats stay open, and additional choice funds bridge the FY27 budget gap; it also pledged to hold community budget forums and tasked Chair Margaret Stancer and member Rachel Figurasmith with drafting a communication explaining the committee's budgeting process to residents.
