Amherst School Committee unanimously approves charter opposition, eyes special-education needs for FY26. Chair Sarah Marshall presided as the committee approved on November 19 a letter opposing Pelham Charter Valley International Charter School's enrollment expansion. Superintendent Dr.
Xiomara Herman presented budget planning priorities highlighting increases in mental health service demand and special education needs. The district is seeing growth in students with IEPs, 504 plans, and intensive service requirements, with average class size at approximately 20.
