Cable committee warns of public access funding crisis

AMHERST — The Cable Television Advisory Committee discussed financial pressures on public access programming. Chair Brianna Sunryd reported that a 10-year forecast shows declining Comcast cable subscriber revenue insufficient to fund the three required Public, Educational, and Governmental channels, threatening programming cuts and regulatory non-compliance. The Committee reviewed Comcast's Form 100 filing documenting 10 state complaints and requested detailed customer complaint and resolution information.

Members Sean Hannon and Frederick Civian volunteered to compile summaries of historical Form 100 filings. The Committee authorized a community survey with over 100 responses, with the next meeting scheduled August 14 via Zoom.
