AMHERST — Cable Television Advisory Committee holds public hearing on Comcast license renewal. Chair Brianna Sunryd presented the committee's federally-required ascertainment process to evaluate Comcast's compliance and gather community input on cable needs as part of a comprehensive review every ten years. Two residents testified: Myra Ross, chair of the Amherst Commission for Persons with Disabilities, praised Comcast's voice access but urged lower-cost basic service excluding unrelated channels to improve news access.
She also noted frustration with Comcast's pricing practices keeping costs high until she called to switch services. David Ross stated that news access is essential for community connection and suggested more news in basic service would attract subscribers.
