Amherst ZBA Approves Pole Barn, Two ADUs; Glen Meadow Permit Dispute Resolved

Zoning Board · Meeting of June 16, 2026

Amherst Zoning Board of Appeals approved three residential variance requests and resolved a contested building-permit dispute at its June 16 meeting. Operating with only three members present, the board voted 3-0 on each item after town attorney Stephen Bengar cautioned that any single "no" vote would defeat a motion. The most complex matter involved 44 Glen Meadow Drive, where a permit issued April 17, 2026 had been revoked over a dispute with the developer of the 32-lot Preserve at Glen Meadows subdivision regarding a required lighting district; Bengar and applicant attorney Ralph Larigo negotiated a same-day stipulation under which the applicant waived liability claims and withdrew the appeal, with the permit to be reinstated the following morning and the underlying lighting dispute deferred.

The board also approved a 35-by-50-foot pole barn for Zachary Day at 284 Ayer Road, a 722-square-foot ADU for William Rozier at 254 Getzville Road, and a special permit for a one-story addition to house an aging parent for Cheryl LaDuca at 24 Wayside Court.
