Amherst School Committee approves cost centers, requests budget restorative scenarios
Amherst School Committee, Hybrid Meeting · Meeting of June 16, 2026
Amherst School Committee approves cost-center structure and pursues budget alternatives. The committee voted unanimously to adopt 22 cost centers for FY27 and directed administration to present two budget scenarios at next week's meeting: one showing restorations at approximately 5 percent growth and another displaying the cost of full funding with no cuts to student-facing positions. Committee members, chaired by Deb Leonard, expressed concern about specials instruction adequacy at Amethyst Brook Elementary School (approximately 575 students) amid confirmed reductions of 2.0 math coaching FTEs and 0.5 direct interventionist FTEs.
The administration introduced new Administrator of Mental Health and Behavioral Services Colleen Boganovich, holder of an MSW from Boston University, and outlined offsetting additions including behavioral health services, related service providers, and a preschool expansion. The committee also unanimously approved launching an Instagram account for informational communications with commenting disabled.
