Amherst Reminds Voters of Options Ahead of Tuesday's State Primary

Amherst is reminding voters of their options ahead of Tuesday's Massachusetts state primary election, while opening applications for a free Civic Academy program and continuing renovations at the Bangs Community Center.

TOWN HALL

Amherst voters have several ways to cast a ballot before Tuesday's state primary election on September 1, according to the town's News & Announcements page. Registered Amherst voters can vote by mail, vote absentee, vote early in person, or vote on election day.

The town is also accepting applications for the All About Amherst Civic Academy, a free eight-week program that lets participants explore the day-to-day operations of local government, talk directly with staff, and take behind-the-scenes tours. Applications are due by Sunday, September 20.

Renovations continue at the Bangs Community Center, with upgrades to health and safety, accessibility, the Senior Center, and the area adjacent to Room 101. The building will remain open throughout the work, with completion expected in early 2027. Town Hall also began glowing purple Friday, August 28, and will stay lit through next week in recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day.

The Amherst School Committee holds a retreat Saturday, August 29, according to the town's public meetings calendar.

COMING UP

This weekend brings a full slate of town-run and community events: the Amherst Farmers Market, the Biggest Tiny Art Show in North Amherst, Ice Cream in the Park, Salsa in the Park, and open-play pickleball at Mill River, all Saturday, August 29, with pickleball continuing Sunday, August 30. The Human Rights Commission meets Sunday, August 30. Monday, August 31 brings a Special Town Council work session and a meeting of the Cherry Hill Working Group.
