Amherst Closes Spring Street Section for Paving Tuesday

AMHERST — A stretch of Spring Street will shut down completely to traffic and parking on Tuesday, Aug. 25, as crews repave the road, while separate town notices opened applications for downtown parking permits and Community Preservation Act grants.

The town's News Flash service announced that a small section of Spring Street, near 26 Spring Street between Boltwood Avenue and Churchill Road, will be paved on Aug. 25. The section will be closed to all traffic, and street parking will not be available for the day.

Separately, the town opened its online application for downtown parking permits for the coming season, which runs Sept. 1 through May 31. Residents can apply through the town's website.

The Community Preservation Act Committee is also accepting applications for projects supporting community housing, historic preservation, open space, and recreation. Applications are due by Oct. 16.

The town's community calendar lists an "America 250: Off the Beaten Path Hike" on Monday, Aug. 24, part of the town's ongoing slate of history-themed August events, and a Nature Storytime program set for Wednesday, Aug. 26.

COMING UP

The Zoning Board of Appeals meets Thursday, Aug. 27, and the Energy and Climate Action Committee meets Wednesday, Aug. 26. The Human Rights Commission is scheduled to meet Sunday, Aug. 30. The town will also conduct an advance removal of early voted ballots on Thursday, Aug. 27, ahead of the Sept. 1 State Primary.
